4 ways to stop agreeing with poverty in your life
The other day, I was working with a couple who told me about their house. They are new to the area where they live, and they’re renting a home they really love. They want to buy it, but they aren’t able to do so right now.
“We’re hoping no one takes the house from us,” they said.
That is a mindset of scarcity—a poverty spirit reaction.
A poverty spirit thinks according to fear and lack:
“I’m not going to get what I want because there isn’t enough to go around.”
“We aren’t going to win. We never win.”
“We are at the end of the line, not the front.”
“Other people are going to wind up with what we are hoping for.”
That kind of thinking is not your portion as a child of God.
When this couple realized their mindset agreed with what the enemy was saying, they did an about-face and began implementing some Prosperous Soul tools to change their thinking.
You can do the same thing.
When you realize you are agreeing with poverty, here are a few things you can do to break synergy with the enemy:
1. Take the thing you are concerned with—the job, the hourly wage, the debt, the house, the car—and devote it to the Lord. Leave the problem in His hands, and step away from it. This cancels the agreement between your thoughts and what the enemy is loudly broadcasting to you.
2. Walk in the discipline of saying “no.” Maybe it is time to set aside something temporary, so you can gain something that lasts. Self-control is a beautiful component of liberty.
3. Worship the Lord. Worshiping Him is a major way to “change the station” in your life and start listening to His broadcast instead of the enemy’s.
4. Practice gratitude. What good things are happening in your life? What are you thankful for? “God, thank You that I had enough money to pay that bill. Thank You that I am able to buy coffee this week.”
