Greetings Prosperous Souls,
I’ve been spending a lot of time in Philippians, specifically here:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
— Philippians 4:6–7 ESV
When I first read this passage, I realized, “Wow, my prayers are so fearful!”
Lately, my prayers have felt like venting sessions. While there’s nothing wrong with being honest, Paul calls us to something higher:
…in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Thanksgiving? You mean we’re supposed to be grateful when we intercede?
This week, let’s honor God by opening our prayers with gratitude. Start by declaring what you’re thankful for, then ask for what you need.
Embracing gratitude,
Cory De Silva
