Hello Financial Healers,
Two weeks ago I helped a couple sort through their debts. We looked at their loans, compiled interest rates, and plugged in some numbers to calculate a road to prosperity. Like most cases when analyzing debt, this couple felt discouraged.
We ended our session with a plan to meet again and build a strategy for 2024. I heard back from the husband the following day in an email. He said:
“I was so discouraged after our meeting. I felt like a complete failure, seeing how my decisions had brought such pain to my family. I stayed up late processing with God, telling Him, ‘I feel so lame.’ Then I heard the Lord say, ‘Then be someone who isn’t lame.’ I was shocked, ‘What does that even mean?’ I thought about a successful person I follow on Twitter, and wondered, ‘If they were in my shoes, what would they do?’”
It was a simple but powerful revelation. It energized my client enough to stay up all night working through my Financial Workshop, making serious progress with his numbers.
When I met with this couple the following week, I was surprised at how positive the husband’s attitude was. I asked him, “What changed?”
He told me about this powerful revelation. Without knowing it, he had overcome one of life’s biggest roadblocks—a victim mindset.
Who inspires you?
Sometimes all you need to rise above discouragement is to look at the successful people around you. Are they fearless, overly confident, or prudent in their spending? Discern what sets your heroes apart and decide, How would they act in my situation?
Now, of course, this may not instantly change your situation. My client was still in debt. But it told him he wasn’t stuck. He could take steps to improve his circumstances, and this was all the encouragement he needed.
God bless your Prosperous Soul,
