Greetings Prosperous Souls,
We’ve all heard it said, “Money is the root of all evil.” But what about Jesus’ words? “It’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
The rich get picked on a lot, and it’s easy to see why. Scripture points to how effortless it is for the wealthy to forget God in times of success:
“Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’” — Proverbs 30:9
It’s human nature for us to turn from the Lord when things go well. We lean into self-sufficiency. But this is not healthy.
The Test of Wealth
In most cases, pursuing God occurs naturally when things get hard. When bills pile up, relationships falter, and hope feels distant, prayer becomes our lifeline.
But the real test comes in prosperity, when our life feels secure. In these moments, we set our prayers in “cruise control” and let the apples fall where they may.
Humility and Grace
The real issue is not the rich, but the misplaced trust that often accompanies wealth.
So, can a wealthy person get into heaven? Of course! But not without the grace of God and the humility to remember Who provides it all in the first place.
This week, let’s avoid false security and self-sufficiency. Recognize that all blessing comes from the Lord, and view any increases you receive as tools to advance His Kingdom.
