Feel like you can't measure up? This is probably why.
The other day I was doing a Financial Sozo with someone who’s highly successful in their field. The Holy Spirit told me something about them that was unexpected. I heard the Lord say, “This man feels like an imposter.”
How could that word apply to this guy? I thought. He was so qualified—practically a master in his area—and the word imposter didn’t seem to fit. But I decided to lay it out there and see what would happen.
When the timing was right, I asked the client, “Does the word imposter mean anything to you?”
“Yes,” he said, blown away.
My client went on to explain that even though he was successful, he felt like a fraud. He feared that at any time his business would collapse away and he’d lose everything.
This moment became an amazing healing time I can’t take credit for, because it was the Holy Spirit’s revelation.
Do you feel like you don’t measure up, even though you’ve experienced success in your life?
Imposter syndrome is a lie often caught by an event—something that went wrong and hurt us in some way. The event planted a seed, our circumstances watered it, and the plant sprouted and began to grow in our heart.
Until we get rid of this lie, we are left feeling like we don’t really belong. No matter where our success takes us, we feel like we shouldn’t be celebrated, thinking, “I’m going to drop this ball. I’m going to fail somehow. I don’t want my joy to end, but it’s going to happen.”
There can be no confidence, or peace, as long as the seed of imposter syndrome is allowed to grow.
If you recognize you struggle with this lie, what can you do?
Any idea that falls short of the mind of Christ is suspect. It might seem like the truth, and it obviously falls within the “truth” of your experience, but it isn’t TRUTH according to Scripture and the mind of Christ.
A Prosperous Soul is someone who trusts Jesus enough to displace whatever they believe that is in conflict with Him. That’s a key piece of Financial Sozo: not tolerating any “truth” that fights against the absolute truth of Jesus.
When we uncover a belief about money or about ourselves that falls short of the mind of Christ, we respond bravely, even ferociously, and remove it.
As we change our belief structures to agree with Jesus, we discover our confidence. We’re able to go where He is leading us, even if it’s a better position or situation than we ever dreamed possible.
Here’s a prayer you can use:
Father God, thank You for revealing this lie of imposter syndrome. I ask You to remove its hold over my life. Please impart confidence to me, and help me to see the truth of who I am. Thank You for the skills and knowledge You have given me. Thank You for allowing me to grow. I pray this all in Jesus’s Name. Amen.
