Can you have faith and financial security?
A lot of well-meaning believers wonder if it’s okay to have faith and money. They think, “I live by faith, so stability is out of the question.”
This is not only unbiblical, it’s unrealistic and not helpful. God wants us to live by faith, but He also gives us tools (skills, favor, wealth) to advance His Kingdom.
Some Christians believe that living by faith means living in lack. But where does this idea come from? Many quote the verse, “You cannot serve both God and money” (Matt. 6:24 NIV). But there’s a big difference between having money and serving it.

We’ve all heard about monks living in the mountains, swearing off wealth and earthly pleasures. While I respect their determination, I can’t help but wonder if the poverty or religious spirit motivates their decision.
Now, don’t get me wrong, if you’re called to live a minimalist lifestyle, go for it. Just make sure it’s done from faith, not lack.
Point is, God calls each of us to live according to our unique purpose. We can’t look at the struggling troubadour and think, That’s the only way to live by faith. There are multiple ways to serve God. That’s what makes His wisdom so infinite.
Some of us will have great stability because of the career we choose (doctor or engineer), others will experience a more sporadic or seasonal income (actor, cattle rancher). Each hold value in God’s Kingdom, and each have the capacity for faith.
Faith and security do not cancel each other out.
Provision is a basic human need. It’s proper to pray for food, clothing, and shelter. God cares about the birds of the air, so how much more does He care about you (see Luke 12:24).
I know I’m harping a lot, but I see too many Christians suffer without reason. It reveals a common money lie: “I can’t follow the Lord and have money, too.”
If that’s true, Solomon, Abraham, Isaac, and Joseph are disqualified. A belief system that says provision isn’t for the followers of God simply isn’t true.
Here’s what God’s Word says, “you are a servant of Christ and a steward of His mysteries (see 1 Corinthians 4:1).
You get to handle God’s secrets. You get to carry His mission into the world. If an abundance of wealth is part of that calling, so be it.
And that’s it!
