Hello Financial Healers,
November has been a crazy month. Last week my wife, Dawna, got knee replacement surgery, my uncle was sent to the hospital, and my grandson, who was visiting, had the stomach flu.
There’s been a lot of chaos, and it’s tempting to give in to stress. But what’s gotten me through this whirlwind is gratitude. I take comfort in this verse:
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1:2-3 NIV
To practice perseverance, I’ve been declaring out loud what I’m grateful for. Just this week…
… I thanked God that Dawna had a successful knee surgery. I thanked Jesus that my uncle was moved to a care facility closer to my home. And I thanked Holy Spirit that my grandson’s flu symptoms eased after we adjusted his diet.
These declarations have helped, but I’m still on this journey. My wife has a long way to go in her recovery, and my uncle is still housed in a care facility.
I can focus on these negative situations, or I can do what Scripture says and “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV).
This week I encourage you — thank the Lord for any large or small victories. Declare them out loud. Allow your wins to increase hope and push you past obstacles.
