Hello Financial Healers,
I’m still down in Southern California taking care of family, but I came across an interesting study.
According to the World Happiness Report, Finland is the world’s happiest country.
Finland?!
Yep. Apparently, they’ve been in the lead for six years now, outpacing fellow Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, and Norway).
I traveled to Norway ten years ago. The country was so beautiful and their economy seemed strong. I’m not surprised to see it on this list.
I’ve also been to Switzerland. Talk about eye-dropping scenery!
Digging into the study, I found some interesting insights:
“[In leading states…] revenue is spent largely for the common good. Political institutions are sufficiently cohesive, with strong constraints on the executive to drive outcomes... Common-interest states tend to have effective systems of revenue collection with broad-based taxation, strong collective provision using universal programs for health, education, and retirement. They also have legal and regulatory systems which provide the foundations for a strong market economy…”
So, basically…
The happiest countries are led by constrained governments, who promote programs for health, education, and retirement. They have legal and regulatory systems in place that promote a strong market economy.
Sounds smart, right?
Maybe we can learn from our friends in the Nordic world.
