Hello Financial Healers,
The Argentine presidential election is finally over. On Sunday, voters turned out to support Milei, the libertarian candidate. The results came in at 55% to 44%, favoring Milei by 11 points, resulting in what some call “a landslide in Argentine [politics].”
Pundits expected Milei to have only a slight advantage over Sergio Massa, the Peronist candidate, on Sunday’s vote. But the support of the conservative party, helmed by Patricia Bullrich, pushed Milei over the line.
While critics of Milei are currently lamenting the results, the majority of voters are pointing to the weak economy and anticipating change. Bloomberg writes, “[Argentina’s] central bank has effectively run out of money, 40% of [the population] live[s] in poverty, and there’s a palpable concern nationwide about hyperinflation returning after a three-decade hiatus.”
The U.S. has had it rough these last few years, but Argentina is on another level. I sympathize with the Argentine people, and I hope Milei’s anti-government rhetoric converts into positive change for the economy.
Praying for Argentina,
Cory De Silva
