Greetings Prosperous Souls,
Today we’ll work through the last chapter of my book, Money and the Prosperous Soul. I can’t believe we’re already finished! It’s been so fun discovering with you all how to prosper in body, soul, spirit, and finances.
My last chapter covers the concept of Dominion — the skill of choosing God’s best for your situation.
This might sound strange, but not every gift from God is His best for your life. Allow me to explain:
Years ago, I experienced a prophetic dream. In it, I was standing waist-deep in a river. Opportunities from God were floating toward me in the form of gifts.
Some of these blessings were big, some small. I instinctively knew what each of these gifts represented. Some were promotions, others were incredible opportunities.
Point is, all of these gifts were good. I selfishly grabbed as many as I could, but quickly realized I couldn’t carry them all. I had to decide which ones to keep.
The Lord taught me in this process that in the Kingdom economy, good is the enemy of best.
I had to discern which opportunities held the most value and choose well.
Back in real life, during the time of this vision, I was the CFO of Bethel church. I was the numbers guy. I had dreamed of becoming a bestselling author, but it felt out of reach.
And that’s when I saw this new gift floating towards me, a book, but it was clear across the river. I had to violently wade my way over to take ahold of it.
In my day-to-day life, activating this opportunity looked like reorganizing my schedule. This meant that after working for 8 to 10 hours, I’d come home and write for 2 to 3 hours.
To up the quality of my prose, I hired a professional ghostwriter. It was a massive shift, and it took precious time away from my family. But I knew it was God’s best for me in this season, and it fed a long-held dream to become an author.
Long story short, I finished my book, and it kicked off a new phase of me being a traveling speaker. I even had one of my heroes, Dave Ramsey, endorse my message!
Each of us have dreams. Some of them seem faint or distant. But before you go chasing down your dream, ask yourself, Is this God’s best for me?
The Lord knows our hearts deeper than anyone else—even ourselves. He knows what will give us the most life, and He wants us to exercise our freedom to choose.
Discernment is key. Ask yourself: Are there gifts floating down God’s river that feel out of reach? If so, are they His best for you? Maybe the Lord’s best is right in your line of sight, and you won’t have to shift much?
We’ll talk this afternoon about how to see past good opportunities and seize the Lord’s superior blessings.
