Hello Financial Healers,
Last month I wrote a story about my visit to CHLA. I was shocked at how well-received the post was. Here’s a semi-related follow-up.
California’s drug crisis is so bad, the Governor has activated the National Guard and Highway Patrol to support law enforcement in San Francisco.
According to NPR, the California governor is “directing the… Highway Patrol and National Guard to assist San Francisco authorities in combating the fentanyl crisis in the city. The two agencies will be partnering with the local police department and the district attorney's office to attempt to stem trafficking of the deadly synthetic opioid.”
This comes more than a year after “Mayor London Breed declared a state of emergency in December 2021 over crime and drug overdoses.”
But drugs aren’t the only problem.
Organized retail theft has seen major stores flee the city. Nordstrom and Whole Foods are the latest victims.
What’s tragic is retailers admit conditions have worsened since the pandemic. California, a strict lockdown state, is dealing with the consequences of restricting business freedom for so long.
The situation is truly devastating. I’ve been to San Fransisco once, and it was enough. I never saw its Tenderloin District, but being a native of Los Angeles, I can imagine how horrible it can be.
In other news…
California might need to send reinforcements to Los Angeles. A new “Zombie drug” that rots human flesh is burning through the streets. Addiction experts like Cary Quashen claim, “I’ve never seen anything like what we’re dealing with right now.”
I’ve lived in California my entire life. I used to love it here. The weather’s nice (most of the time), but it’s gotten worse.
There are still gems tucked away (i.e., South Lake Tahoe, Oceanside, Dana Point). But how long until California’s sickness infects these paradises, too?

You picked up the main things Cory. The rest are poised to crumble too. Oceanside is not the pleasant place it once was and South Lake Tahoe has been teetering for at least 10 years. Wait till the masses get a taste of Gov mandate to auto dealers and mechanics about limiting repair and service on vehicles over ten years old in its plan to "get them off the streets permanently."
