WHAT DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE ABOUT MONEY?
The Holy Spirit wants to write the law of Christ on our hearts. The issue is we have our own pens, a human perspective, and it records our experiences through a subjective lens.
Each of us draws from our own pasts to form ideas about the present and future. Many times our thinking falls short of the truth Christ teaches. We create ideas that combat God’s nature.
If our perspective fails to align with God’s, we create an orphan gap, and this gap can be exploited by the enemy.
What is an orphan gap?
An orphan gap is a mindset that tells us we are alone or abandoned. But God’s truth reveals otherwise.
Galatians 4:21 talks about the “bent” we can have toward poverty thinking. I’ve included three different translations of this verse because each approaches the subject in a slightly different way:
Tell me, you who are bent on being under the Law, do you not listen to [what] the Law [really says]? (AMP)
Tell me now, you who have become so enamored with the law: Have you paid close attention to that law? (MSG)
Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the Law? (NASB)
Bent, enamored, want.
The laws contrary to God exist inside us because of our bent, our want, and our tendency to be enamored with our own experiences and ideas. We can put our trust in those inferior beliefs instead of the Lord.
Make room for the truth
Any laws that are not written by Christ and His words need to be erased from the pages of our heart. Sometimes we don’t have room for the truth because our pages are full, so we need to go in and actually make space for God’s ideas.
If we can learn how to “capture” from Scripture what Jesus thinks about money, and what He thinks about us as children of God, we can write those ideas on our heart instead.
Here’s a powerful prayer asking the Lord for help:
Father God, I ask that You would give me eyes to examine the laws on my heart and compare them to the words and mind of Christ. Help me erase the ones that fall short and replace them with the truth of the gospel of peace in the subject of money and my Prosperous Soul. In Jesus’ name, amen.
We need a new lens for old thoughts. This week, let’s practice looking at our heart with this lens: “What does Jesus think about my words and actions concerning money?”
If you sense there’s a difference between your words and actions and the words and actions of Jesus, go to the Holy Spirit in prayer. Spend some time reflecting and being humble enough to allow Him to work the soft clay that is your life into the light of the mind of Christ.
