WHY IS IT SO HARD TO LEAVE POVERTY THINKING BEHIND?
Leaving poverty behind can be tough because it feels so familiar.
For me, I hated the effects of poverty thinking in my life—but I kept returning to it because I was familiar with it. Poverty thinking was what I knew.
The unfamiliarity compared to the familiarity encouraged me to grab my poverty thinking and hold on to it.
Familiarity is like glue that binds us to ideas that we know are wrong.
But when we sever that bond, we can sail off into the glorious unknown realm of the Prosperous Soul.
If you need help swinging the ax and setting yourself free from poverty thinking, this question can be a great place to start:
If you exchanged a poverty spirit for a Prosperous Soul, what would your life be like? What would be different? What would change?
A poverty spirit produces anxiety. “Bad things are going to happen to me! It doesn’t matter if good things happen—something bad will take its place.”
If anxiety no longer operated in your life, what would you do? How would you live?
A poverty spirit makes people feel trapped. “My family fails with money. That’s just what happens with us, and I will never break free.”
If you no longer felt trapped, what would you do with your life? Would you be bolder? Would you have the courage to take risks with God?
A poverty spirit makes people feel condemned for past mistakes. “I made a mistake with money, and now I am drowning in debt. It’s all my fault. I am a failure.”
If you no longer felt ashamed of your past, how would you live? What would you do? Do you think you would laugh more?
A poverty spirit makes people believe that God doesn’t care about them or have time for them. “I am not called to great things. I am barely getting by, and this is all God has for me.”
If you could dream with God, what would you dream? Without poverty whispering to you, would you be a better spouse? Would you be a more relaxed and caring parent? Would you have the courage to believe God for great things?
No matter what poverty tries to tell you, remember you are not an orphan.
You have a Father who wants to share His genius with you. He has great ideas, and He wants to tell you about them. This is a completely unknown realm for many of us, but we don’t ever need to be afraid to sail into it.
May the mind of Christ overtake you and teach you how to leave poverty behind forever.
