Yes, we called it "Layaway" It was wonderful for those of us who wanted to get a large item as a gift for someone for Christmas. We would go to the store and select the item and put it on layaway in May or June. The store would put the item on save shelves and we would pay monthly on the item until paid in full. We could leave the item in layaway if it was too early to give to person intended. Very convenient. No mess, no interest, store always knew where it was and gifts got given at right time. I have thought it would be nice to have layaway service again!
It was amazing, very orderly, no big concern about the item, the payment or how much when. Life was different then too. Now with much cost language attached to anything anyone wants or needs, I do firmly believe that money is the god of today, sad to say, and praying for our Father God to show us how He wants to turn it around through His people!
We had a similar system when I was younger, except you didn't get the goods until the payments were done!
